Cheryl Markwell has lived in Southern Oregon most of her adult life, so she has a long-standing perspective of the blessings and challenges of living here. Except for some college jobs, her entire career has been in education, both at the classroom and the administrative level.
Work in both those arenas has honed her organizational and people skills, as well as given her insight into how people intake and integrate new information. Her master's degree and doctoral study allowed her to look into motivation for learning, which extends into any type of willingness to change behavior based on deeper understanding. Changing the way we think about the mechanics and politics of local products will be an in important and incremental step toward meeting Thrive's goals. She is a widow with two grown children, recently retired. She enjoys traveling and working in her yard and garden.
